Review Quotes:
"Rosen gives listeners a solid foundation for the practice of pranayama. He subtly fosters the essential actions that nourish a lifelong practice. Even longtime practitioners are likely to discover fresh insights by following these artfully guided pranayama practices and meditations."--"Yoga Journal"

For thousands of years yoga practitioners have tapped into the power of "pranayama, " a method of focused breathing to rejuvenate the body and mind, and to bring about spiritual transformation. Here Richard Rosen presents an in-depth program on pranayama designed for beginners as well as for those with an existing practice who are looking to build upon their experience and refine their technique. On 7 CDs (about 7 hours), he offers easy-to-follow, guided breathing instructions and then goes on to lead pranayama routines that create an ideal structure for pranayama practice at home.
The program includes:
- a 16-page booklet that provides an overview of pranayama
- instruction on "ujjayi, violma, " and "bhramari "breaths that form the foundation of pranayama
- more advanced breathing techniques like ratio breathing, digital pranayama, and inner and outer retention
- eight different guided pranayama routines
- twelve guided meditations with visualizations in "shavasana "
- and much more

Richard Rosen began his practice of Hatha Yoga in 1980, and from 1982 to 1985 trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco. In 1987, along with his good friends Rodney Yee and Clare Finn, he opened Piedmont Yoga where hes taught continuously ever since. On January 3, 2009 he taught his 5000th public class at PYS. Richard is also a contributing editor for Yoga Journal magazine. Over the years hes written feature articles, book reviews, and a variety of columns. Since 1990, hes been YJs audio/video review columnist, and in 2008 he submitted his 300th review, happily of a video by Rod Yee. Richard is the author of three books, The Yoga of Breath (Shambhala 2002), Yoga for 50+ (Ulysses 2004), and Pranayama Beyond the Basics (Shambhala 2006). Hes also created a set of seven CDs titled The Practice of Pranayama, issued by Shambhala, and Shambhala will publish his Original Yoga, a book about traditional Hatha Yoga, in 2011.

Since 1989 hes been on the board of directors of the California Yoga Teachers Association, and in 2008 joined the board of its grant-making wing, the Yoga Dana Foundation, which supports California yoga teachers working with underserved populations, such as at-risk and incarcerated youth and disabled students.
